Bartels Farms embraces a mission of grazing cattle in their natural habitat (lush green pastures) and allowing them to feast on their native diet of grass. This mission, coupled with gentle and respectful humane handling of their livestock, results in healthier, stress free animals who produce a more wholesome product that is locally grown, healthier for the consumer, and better for the environment.
Bartels Farms 100% Grass Fed Natural (GFN) beef is a premium line of fresh beef from cattle raised on lush pastures of the Pacific Northwest. Cattle are selected for the Bartels Farms GFN Program on the basis of their size, conformation and quality, then finished with a premium proprietary blend of grass pellets from the Willamette Valley of Oregon. These grass fed and grass finished animals are not supplemented with grain and never treated with or fed antibiotics, hormones, growth promotants or genetically modified organisms (GMO’s). Feeding grass pellets allow cattle to ingest more energy from their feed, resulting in meat cuts and ground beef that are healthy and flavorful. The use of premium proprietary grass pellets allow for a consistent and abundant supply of high-quality grass fed and grass finished beef year round.
Cattle are finished on this native diet for 60 to 100 days and then harvested and processed at the Bartels Farms facility in West Eugene. Each lot or group of cattle are accompanied with a signed affidavit from each livestock producer verifying compliance with the 100% Grass Fed Natural claim and also contains a statement that random audits will be conducted at the farms/ranches to verify they meet this claim. These audits are carried out by Robert Wright, DVM. The average weight of the animal at the time of harvest is 1,300 pounds, with an average dressed weight of 715 pounds.
In comparison to grain fed cattle, 100% Grass Fed Natural beef is leaner and contains 10 times the level of Beta Carotene, which our bodies convert into Vitamin A, and 3 times the level of Vitamin E. Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA), a good fatty acid produced in the stomachs of 100% Grass Fed Natural cattle, has been found to slow cancer tumor growth and is very high in good Omega 3 Fatty Acids which is beneficial in preventing coronary disease, cancer and diabetes; the result of evidence based studies. 100% Grass Fed Natural beef also contains Potassium, Magnesium and Calcium because the lush green pastures the cattle graze upon contain these minerals and pass it on to us. And regardless of whether you consume conventional, natural or organic beef – all beef is gluten free!
